Hello! I am a PhD student at Boston University in the musicology department. This site is intended for contact purposes…but it is also where I can experiment with ideas on punk, renaissance polyphony, serialism, jazz, and other far-flung topics.
BIO
I’m from Pittsburg, Kansas, where I failed to graduate high school in 2003 but nonetheless learned a lot about music and persevered. I worked on some German and other subjects at Pitt State and University of Missouri before finally getting a history degree in 2015 at Columbia College; I wrote a BA thesis on the Espionage Act. I went back to Columbia MO and completed an MA in Musicology at Mizzou (2018) under Michael Budds, Judith Mabary, and Maya Gibson.
At that time I wrote my thesis on the two mid-16th century imitation masses on Johannes Lupi’s Spes salutis, comparing their techniques of J. Clemens non Papa and the anonymous composer in adapting the Lupi motet. I still work on the Clemens milieu and am particularly interested in his biography, stylistic connections with others, and religiousity.
Once arriving in Boston to pursue my PhD at Boston University (2018), I began exploring additional topics removed from renaissance. Boston’s character and history inspire my current work on Boston Hardcore 1981-1985, which is the subject of my dissertation.
